Radio Harbor Country WRHC 106.7fm is a low-power FM radio station, located in Three Oaks, Michigan. The signal from the 100 watt transmitter reaches a four to twenty mile radius, serving the area known as Harbor Country. Shows are produced and created by community members from Three Oaks and all of Harbor Country. WRHC is dedicated to organizing, sponsoring and disseminating information on social, cultural and political issues as well as fostering the appreciation of the arts through outreach, education, community involvement, mentoring and programming. WRHC 106.7fm was originally formed under the parent organization Harbor Country Forum. The Forum was created in 1999 as a group dedicated to community forums to discuss relevant social and political issues that affect our community. The group gathered local non-profit organizations form Three Oaks, New Buffalo and Chikaming Townships together to apply for the FCC licenses available to communities for Low Power FM (LPFM) permits to build in 2000. After almost five years, in 2005 the FCC granted one "permit to build" to Harbor Arts (based in Three Oaks.) WRHC formed under the umbrella and license of Harbor Arts, raised capitol, procured equipment, built studios and began broadcasting in January of 2006. WRHC broadcasts 100 watts and boasts "1000 watts of community." Since 2006, WRHC and community members have created and produced over eighty-five hours per week of original programming. Programming includes talk radio, music of many genres, live remote broadcasts, literature, poetry, local community and national news, mentor programs, interviews, public service announcements, self-help programs, environmentally themed discussions and much, much more. A few highlights are "It's Elementary," a program produced and hosted by River Valley Elementary School children, and " A Need to Feed," a food-talk program hosted by local food entrepreneur, Patty Panozzo. "Language in Array" is a spoken-word show from a local English Professor of Columbia College, Sean Francis and "Robin's Roost" is a jazz music show from local resident/ex-jazz record producer, Robin McBride. Three River Valley High School students host "Triple Threat" a movie review program. The list and variety of shows continues to grow. WHRC had been established, built and operated by an entirely volunteer staff. In late 2006, WRHC was awarded a grant from the Pokagon Fund which was used to hire the first employee of the station.
